Reverse Glass Mixed Media Paintings by Shawnie Mirandon

I create my paintings on the back of clear acrylic, so the artwork is viewed through the clear surface from the front. I use acrylic paints mixed with subtle metallics, blending them with natural materials like sand, shells, sea glass, and rocks collected from beaches, at times also incorporating hand-painted tissue paper collages.

Through my early experimentation, I developed my own painting techniques to blend thin layers of color, create light and the soft movement of waves, seafoam, and clouds, and combine them with textures to give my paintings a natural look, depth, and life.

About Creating Paintings

I grew up in Del Mar, Ca in a creative environment in a family that loved the ocean and surfing. Inspired by my artist father to become an artist myself, in 2006 I experimented with reverse glass painting, developing my painting technique and the mix of different mediums I discovered I could use.
